Its all in a name. . .

OK, so I promise to get to updating photos of my trailers, but hey, its gorgeous weather and I have been actually working on them.  I have also been buying tools.   Some really handy things which I havent had before, and replacing some of the items which I do have, but maybe arent working so well.

Bought a new cordless drill a 19V, with lots of torque.  Sooooo nice.

Bought a little dolly with a ball hitch on the end to help move the trailers with.  The old one was vintage from teh 50's and little teeny skinny wagon type wheels on. This one has big meaty wheels and makes it much easier.

Also bought a craftsman random orbital sander, to sand down the drawers and interior with.  Lovin it so far... . but the custom sanding paper is adding up  ;(  (nice part though, I just hook it to my shop vac, and tons less mess.

Quilted Stainless Steel
 OK, now for todays lesson.

Its all in a name.  There are things I have been looking for and not able to find.  Like those great backspashes with that cool diamond shape in it.  Looks like this:

Someone told me it was diamond plate.  Actually Lots of people told me it was diamond plate.  Diamond plate is not even close.

This is what diamond plate looks like:

Diamond Plated Steel

Definitely NOT what I wanted.

What I really wanted is called Quilted Stainless Steel.
Like I said. . its all in a name. . once I learned what to search for, it made it sooo much easier.  Then all I had to do was call around and ask for it by name.

This all happened a couple months ago.  Todays lesson was all about faucets.  My trailer has two.  One hooks up to the city water supply, and the second pumps water from a holding tank. The water supply one is just like from an old fashioned bathroom. Where the hot water and cold water were separate.  However this trailer has no hot water supply so I only need a single faucet. I have learned that this is called a basin faucet.  I did searches on "single faucets" and all kinds of things, finally learned that a basin faucet was.
Self Closing Basin Faucet
That took some doing.  Next thing I wanted was to make it so that it would shut off by its self. Like in some retaraunts, or public bathrooms etc. So I did searches on that.  No such luck. Called a few places. They had no clue.  Now I know what I am thinking of exists, but what do I call it.  FINALLY I learned its called a "self closing" basin faucet.  Everyone kept wanting to sell me some fancy electronic gadget, with an electric eye and an automatic shutoff.   I just wanted something that would turn its self off when you're hot holding it on.  this will prevent my grey water tank from overfilling.
Last but not least, for those of you who know trailers, is the water that comes from the fresh water tank.  It is pumped in, either from the spout (manually) via a pump lever, or from a little motor (when you push a button).  I have heard that some of these "hand pumps" do not work well with the motors pumping in water.  If you have some experience with this please let me know.

My First Day As A "Blogger"

OK. . . . Here it is. . my first official entry as a "blogger".  Not much to look at. (yet)
A Very Nice Teardrop Trailer

But soon will come lots and lots (and lots and lots and lots) of pretty pictures (and some not so pretty).  All dealing with my trailer addiction.  Lets just say that I wanted to start out with a little Teardrop trailer, which are popular for camping etc, but no room to stand up in.  Kind of equivalent to a short tent, with a hard-top, that you tow behind your car.  Take a look at this picture here...
As you can see it has a little kitchenette in the back, it tows easily and has a queen size mattress inside.  This is where my addiction started.   I was going to build my very own teardrop trailer.
The first thing you need when you are making a teardrop from the ground up is a frame.  So I started searching on craigslist.org for a frame to build my teardrop on.  While I was searching I discovered something called a "canned ham" trailer. Its not really a canned ham, but it has the same "shape" as a canned ham.  Just imagine this turned on its side, round on the top and flat on the sides, with a couple of wheels on it, and some windows and a door, and voila, you have a "canned ham" trailer. You can stand up in them, you can lay down in them, you can cook in them (most have a stove, and some even have an oven).  They have a sink, electricity, and you can keep them vintage or make them custom.  I have seen ones with large screen Televisions, air conditioners and all the modern amenities.  This will not be the way that I go.  I like vintage things and I want to keep mine vintage.   It will still be great for camping, and will even make a great guest house. Cuz I know ya all like pictures, here is a picture of a pretty canned ham trailer, nice and fixed up (am I jealous, heck yeah, but mine will be nice and shiny real soon--ok maybe not real soon) but I like working on stuff like this, so I am hoping it will be quick, and in the meantime, i am going to enjoy the process... . more to come. . . . . . .
Here is a nice "Canned Ham" Trailer, I believe it belongs to Anne & Kurt Brotcke (I don't know them, I just grabbed this picture to show you all what one looks like, and cuz theirs looks so nice)
